Socialism and Cuba.

A group of Islands in the Northern Caribbean where the Caribbean sea, the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic sea meets lies the Republic of Cuba. Culturally, it is considered as a Latin American country with the Spanish language as its official. Due to a long era of colonization by Spain in the Latin American part of the Continent the Spanish became their own language. The Spanish controlled the island until 1989 after it was controlled by the United States until 1902. The Cuban People are famous for their Revolution and Rebellion, from the Spanish to the Cuban Revolution led by Revolutionaries like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. 



Until the year of 1958, Cuba was under Military Dictatorships and had witnessed many coups. The Dictator Batista before the Revolution was Notorious with Corruption and its connection with the United States. Though the Revolution started in July 1953, it took around 5 years and 5 months to capture absolute power and overthrow the dictator. Cuba in the half of the 20th Century has been witnessing the problems of Unemployment, Unstable governments, Interference of Foreign States, Dominance of American Companies, Organised Crime back channeled by Dictator Batista. During the early regime, the United States supported the Dictator in all the terms but as the Revolution began and he was to lose power the United States also started to oppose him. It all started with Leaders like Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro who gathered around 70 movement fighters and attacked on several military installations in July,1953. The attacks were made to create a wave of a rebel among the people of Cuba against the military dictatorship. 


After numerous key movements against the Dictator, they were arrested with Fidel and Raul and they were trialed and in defense of themselves Fidel spoke about four hours about the Nationalism and it was known with the title of "History will Absolve me". Fidel was sentenced to 15 years and Raul to 13, though within some period due to the Political pressure all the political leaders were realised and with them the Castro brothers also move to exile in Mexico. It was the period when they meet Che Guevara. Thereafter, Students continued their protests and tactics of Guerilla warfare was used in the war. In 1956, Fidel with Che and 81 others returned from Mexico and they moved towards the Mountains, about 3 days later they were attacked by Army and around 20 survived including Fidel, Che and a number of Female Revolutionaries too who assisted them. Later many other attacks were planned by the Guerilla warfare force. Then came the victory day of 31st December of 1958 and the Dictator Batista Flew to the Dominican Republic on 1st January of 1959. Fidel arrived on Havana with a long Victory march on 3rd January with his initial choice of President. The Then United States President Nixon also supported the Cuban Revolution and accepted the interference of United States.


There came Socialist Cuba with Lieo was the First President after the Revolution, Torrado the second with Fidel the third and the longest-serving up to 2008. Unlike the Western Nations of "Liberal Democracy" Cuba follows the Idea of "Peoples Democracy" which does not allow the Criticism of the Political Powers. The idea has been criticized by many Western Democratic nations but the Thought of Absolute Democracy also sometimes makes the way of Unstablility and Security Problems which in term harms the own nation.

       The critics define Cuba as a poor and underdeveloped nation. With lack of proper infrastructure and movement of Old WWII era Vehicles with Lack of Resources and no proper Internet. While they themselves move into Cuba for their vacations and pose photos in that Cars holding the Famous Cuban Cigars. Though for the outsiders the Cuban Lifestyle is doubtful. Still for the idea of an egalitarian society, Cuba has proved its existence. The Subsidiary style of Governance has made equality and equity in all aspects. The government has a policy of providing state-controlled food with a set price so that all sections of the society can fill their stomachs unlike in Capitalist Nations which suffer from Hunger and poverty. Cuba is one of the 17 countries with a Global hunger index of less than 5. The persons who have sufficient wealth can also purchase from other private markets too. The Healthcare Facilities and Doctors of Cuba are known Worldwide. The State gives Free Healthcare to all, Unlike the other countries where u sometimes have to spend a fortune for a small surgery. A hip-repair facture costs around 72.15 $ in Cuba while in United States this costs around 14,263 $. This is where Capitalism has brought Humanity in the Westernised Countries. The Wealth is more important than the Lives of their Citizens.


Proper Housing is a much problem in Cuba, though the State provides Free Housing also the Quality is very bad and sometimes they have to live in small dwellings in cities like Havana. There is no problem with Good education also in the State. The Government provides free education to all irrespective of their Fields. Medical Education which is costly in many other countries, here is free of cost. This caused many Foreign students to pursue their education in Cuba. Everything is hard in the Capitalist nations and still, some criticize the others who are helping their own citizens of basic amenities. What is the need of Free speech when you don't have food to eat and shelter to live with Healthcare facilities? The Cuban system also has denounced the Class system by making a equal pay and equity pay to all the occupations. The salary of the Teacher as well as the Doctor and the Carpenter is almost the same with a difference of a dollar or two. With all work for Government, there is no chance of exploitation by the owners. With no problem of Income-tax or any kind of heavily taxed products. No mortgaging of houses for Education and Healthcare facilities.



    The United States notorious tactics of imposing sanctions on Underdeveloped nations as well as Developing nations for their own benefits have made the World more problematic. The interference of each and every nations by the United States has always caused discomfort amongst the Peace living Socialist states like Cuba. The presence of oil or any kind of resources makes them blind and they resort to any means for the exploitation of them. In Iran they organized a coup just because the Britan corporation was exploiting the natural resources and hence they Helped a Dictator to capture the power and still they call themselves the motherland of Democracy. The limited resources in Cuba didn't make themselves poor, the low amount of medical resources due to the sanctions made themselves the producers of one of the Great Medical Facilities with free treatments. In the Corona Epidemic is was the 29,000 Cuban Doctors and medical facilities who helped the African , Asian and all around the Globe. The idea of Medical Diplomacy made the most of nations to take the help of a small socialist nation deprived of proper Trades and commerce because it does not fit in the American Standards. From the 60 years, it has been sending its Medical Practitioners to all the parts of the globe to offer free treatment to all irrespective of their Nation's history and geography. During the Katrina strike on around 2005, it was Fidel Castro who send 1,900 Doctors into US and during early 2020 it was the Developed Nation like Italy who took their help in fighting. 

Fidel also quotes during Katrina that "It's not a war of ideologies or human to human, it is a war of human vs epidemic and disaster and the humans will fight against and thrive together." The Cuban Governance ideals and the Lifestyle has been favorable to many of the Foreign Citizens who think of retirement from the Capitalist system of exploitation to a socialist system who demands the equal cooperation of all sections in society and to live a peaceful lifestyle accompanied by the Cheap Rum and the Famous Cuban Cigars with Floral shirts and Linen pants while enjoying the Evening at a beach of Havana. Thus living a peaceful community life without any desire of Huge amounts of wealth and big spacious houses.
